Photos: Airships on the fly

Photos: Airships on the fly | CNET

This photo gallery of various airships cover the broad spectrum of uses of airships as they make their comeback. Blimps and zepplins are being used for everything from space telescopes to personal transportation. There are concepts for a luxury air cruise as well as commercial and military telecommunications. Enjoy.

  1. The problem with zepplins is that they're nearly impossible to control. They're completely at the mercy of the wind. Furthermore, you couldn't land them in a tight urban space.

The cheif advantage of powered aircraft over zepplins is that they responsively go where you point them, when you point them.
